Jacqueline (Jackie) Patricia Makinson (nee MacDougall) 1938 – 2023 Jackie was born on February 1, 1938 in Moncton NB and passed away on January 22, 2023 in Joliette QC. Jackie leaves behind her husband of 67 years, Joseph (Joey) Makinson. She was a loving mother to Michael (Bonnie), Robert (Brenda) and Gregory. She will be remembered by her grandchildren Patrick, Carly, Meryl and Brandon and great granddaughter Paisley. As a child Jackie moved to Montreal where she attended Drummond Elementary School and Rosemount High School. In 1955 Jackie and Joey were married in a small church in Rawdon, QC. The couple made their home in the Rosemount district of Montreal and by late 1959 had three sons. Jackie started working at Bell Canada part time in the mid 1960’s and was a full-time employee by 1970. She had a long career with Bell where she had many friends. She retired from Bell at the end of 1992. In 1993 Jackie and Joey, now both retired, moved to Gratten Lake, a small cottage community an hour’s drive north of Montreal. The location of their home allowed Jackie to make full use of the beach where she could be found most summer days talking with friends. Jackie was an animal lover and was keen to feed anything that wandered by. The fish in the lake attracted otters and the occasional beaver. She spent countless hours feeding fish and many different species of birds. Ducks often woke her up in the morning looking for food. Over the last few years, a crowd of wild turkeys visited the front yard in the fall. Jackie had a strong commitment to community. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile for over 20 years and served as Queen of Oasis Temple 46 in Montreal in 2003. Jackie travelled to Montreal for member meetings and for visits to The Shriners Hospital for Children. The annual conferences attended were always memorable. Jackie was also a member of the Gratten Lake Recreation Association. She helped organize outdoor BBQ’s, Christmas events and most notably, the annual summer’s end field day for children. A special thank you to the staff at The Joliette Hospital. As per Jackie’s request a private cremation was held.
